# Threads | Actions, Status, Posts and Lifecycle

**Threads how to use easily and efficiently for communication between subscribers, clients and contractors in SpyderFlow.**

- Provide a simple, familiar conversation experience where authorised users can add posts to a shared thread.

- Make New Activity from other parties easy to find without tracking read state for each individual user.

- Allow a party to explicitly indicate that it has caught up with the latest activity.

- Preserve a clear marker showing which posts were already treated as seen by the party and which posts are newer.

- Allow each party to pin threads that it wants to keep on its radar, without exposing that pin state to other parties.

- Keep thread lifecycle simple and explicit through Open, Closed and Cancelled statuses.

#### **Actions**

- **Create Thread (+NEW)**. Creates a new thread with its first post. Requires a type and subject, plus a message, an attachment, or both.
- **Close Thread.** Changes lifecycle status to Closed, subject to permissions.
- **Cancel Thread.**Changes lifecycle status to Cancelled, subject to permissions.
- **Pin/Unpin Thread.**Adds/Removes the thread to the current party’s Pinned grouping.

#### **General usage**

- **Search, Filter, Sort (Group), Mark Read or Unread**threads
- **Post replies, updates, ask a question or share** important information
- **Add Attachments**to posts/share

#### **Read, Unread, Pinned**

- **Pinned** shows pin next to thread, A user must explicitly Pin/Unpin the thread.
  - The pin is visible to all users in the same party.
  - The pin is not visible to other parties.
  - Posts, activity handling and lifecycle changes do not automatically pin or unpin a thread.
- **Unread** shows white dot left side and is in bold text. The post has not been reviewed as yet
- **Read** no dot and not highlighted. The post has been seen and is no longer new activity.

#### New Activity in a Thread

New activity is shown above previous seen posts with a visible divider identifying what is seen and what is new activity.

[![](https://spydertech.net.au/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Screenshot-2026-08-13-105551.png)](https://spydertech.net.au/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Screenshot-2026-08-13-105551.png)

When a party marks activity as seen, its marker advances to the latest post currently available. Posts added later by another party appear after the divider and return the thread to New Activity for that party

##### For an Open thread, New Activity is removed for a party when either:

- A user from that party explicitly performs an action such as Mark activity as seen; or

- A user from that party adds a new post to the thread.

##### **Mark as Read**

- User mark as read
- Close thread
- Reply and then the post is marked as read

##### **Thread Lifecycle**

- **Open:** Allows conversation. The thread is active and may continue to receive posts.
- **Closed:** Conversation is complete. The thread has reached a normal conclusion.
- **Cancelled:** The conversation is cancelled. The thread has been discontinued and is not expected to continue.

Lifecycle status is mutually exclusive. A thread has one of these statuses at a time.

##### **Example:**

- Thread is created by Subscriber user
- Contractor or Client replies
- Subscriber sees new activity of the reply. Reviews and marks as read or if important pins post.
- Conversation continues for the duration of the work order back and forth.
- Each side reviews the conversation marking as read, pin posts as important when required, replying back and forth.
- After final post the Thread is closed and conversation remains visible but complete.
